Chatterbox is based in East Berkshire and is run by parents of children with Down's Syndrome. The Group was set up in April 2001 to provide group speech and language therapy for pre-school children with Down's Syndrome.

The purpose of the Group is based on current best-practice at this developmental stage. The aims are to:

  • Encourage use of signing to support speech and language
  • Increase comprehension of language
  • Introduce speech sounds of English
  • Improve atention and listening skills
  • Encourage turn-taking
  • Extend the range of language functions used
  • Extend auditory memory
  • Introduce a sight vocabulary

Chatterbox Plus aims to provide additional speech and language therapy for older, school-going children.

Sparkles is based in High Wycombe, South Bucks, it began with the parents of three children with Down Syndrome, concerned that their children would be on a long NHS waiting list for Speech Therapy. In May 1999, a group formed and together, with the help of their local Portage Worker, began to provide the essential therapy they need pre-school. For further information see www.sparkles.org.uk.
